At the office of Beverly Hills Pediatric Dental Care, we provide skilled and compassionate care to help children of all ages enjoy the benefits of a healthy smile.
One of the most common questions that we receive from our patients’ parents is how they can get their kids to brush their teeth and establish better hygiene habits early in life. When it comes to children’s dental care it is very important that adults take the time to instruct their kids on a good oral hygiene routine as early as possible.
Here are some recommendations for things parents can do to inspire a good toothbrushing routine:
- Brush and floss with your kids: making brushing and flossing a part of the daily routine and a fun activity that you can do together will ensure that your kids keep up the same type of routine later on in life.
- Be sure to keep track of the amount of time that your children are brushing their teeth. The American dental Association recommends brushing for at least 2 minutes per session, twice a day. It often helps to add a fun timer or flip a small hourglass over at the sink to make sure your little ones are brushing for the appropriate amount of time.
- Make it fun: There is nothing wrong with adding a bit of incentive like a fun toothbrush with their favorite cartoon character or by getting some special toothpaste for your kids to use. Just remember, it is important to purchase a children’s’ toothpaste with the American Dental Association seal of approval.
However, toothbrushing and flossing is only one part of the equation for maintaining a healthy smile. Good oral health also involves seeing a dentist for periodic checkups and care. When routine care begins at an early age and continues on a regular basis, the office of Beverly Hills Pediatric Dental Care can make certain your child’s smile remains in tip-top condition.
